>And I've seen a number where its simply implied. Until some character or other source clarifies one way or another we can't say for sure.
It depends on the series, I works in something like "Hitomi chan is shy with strangers", because the author managed to deliver how close they are with one another, comfortable with each other, how they feel and despite the huge breasts on the girl is not an ecchi series.
Here the series is bombastic about it, it calls attention to it, imagine the movie "Commando", you get all the "getting the weapons" scenes, meeting the bad guys, the kidnapping of the daughter, all the scenes with him locking and loading, dressing up to kill..........and then we are never shown him killing anyone, what was the point of that?
I find the battles okay, the overall plot boring, the protagonist doesn't seem to have grown in years, let us remember how much he fumbled the reveal of having the demons inside him despite the hype behind such reveal.
They never even explained the rules of how the reward system actually work, is very vague, which seem a way so that the writer can avoid committing to anything or ever be accused of betraying his own rules, just because is fantasy, it doesn't mean is okay to lack coherence.
I'll also pre-emptively say to not devalue the argument by saying "oh but is just a stupid ecchi manga".
>and the girls take it as a compliment for how attractive he finds them
I find that overly convenient.
