Nintendo went and said "fuck third parties" (both through Game Key Cards and very high dev kit prices) and then only released two games in the launch year worth buying. Also the American economy is poor and people are spending less on video games than ever. No one is spending $500+ so their kid can play Donkey Kong, it isn't happening.
