iPods already have value on the collector's market and they have a modding scene to make them actually useful. You can replace the old spinning drives with SD cards. As someone who actually carried around hard drive based mp3 players in the 2000s I highly recommend doing this. Just one drop and your hard drive is fucked. I never wanted an iPod, I had pic related. I miss some things about it but this had 20GB of hard drive storage. My phone has 256GB of flash memory. It also has superior codec support.
