American diplomat Daniel Fried headed the Office for the Coordination of Sanctions at the US State Department.

In an interview with the Belarusian Charter 97, when asked about assessing the sustainability of the Russian economy, he said that "Vladimir Milov, a Russian economist currently living outside of Russia, wrote about this. I think their economy is vulnerable. Sanctions and other forms of economic pressure have damaged the Russian economy, but we can do more."
