Well even the 30s gave us Jirel of Joiry. This isn't a new concept by any stretch. But even in the 70s through 90s you'd have a hero rescue the girl. Aladdin saved Jasmine, Hercules saved Meg. Spider-man still saved Mary Jane and Superman caught Lois mid fall.

But even that aside it feels like every retard forever has been rolling their eyes at the concept of a princess being anything other than a master of all things martial.
