If the history of leftist terrorism is anything to go by, they will need heavy support from several national institutions and law enforcement completely forbidden from doing any kind of investigation or enforcement operations. The understudies of the 70's radicals are the leftist who've ascended to the top in today's society. They only ever had support and their opposition and law enforcement were intentionally hamstrung from launching any kind of counter operation.
Its unlikely that today's left has the kind of insitutional knowledge to launch a terrorism campaign because they've never actually had to deal with real opposition. For further reading, I would recommend Days of Rage.
