That's a disingenuous exaggeration of what actually happened.
Every single game you possess that has automated update can do what he did and more.
You give more "telemetry" by yourself to the GAFAM just browsing 4chan that he took, and it's so niche the data has no value for anyone but the modder.
And Alex wasn't specially concerned because as a developer he knows it's fucking nothing.
It's not even illegal unless you are in a country with European GDPR -like user data protection and even then, not sure, he just has to not share/use the data to make money (as if he could).
This one is a nothing burger and you are just faking the outrage to use it against other modders (who did in fact cross lines and should have been permabanned).
