Only special upgrades 5->6 and 6->7 brick. If you are somehow retarded enough to brick it instead of just using the scrolls that special upgrade it for you, you can just change your weapon and reset the missions.
Let's say you you brick your 2h sword 5->6. Change to different weapon and then back to 2h sword to fix it. You have to complete the quests again.
