I recently started playing Wuthering Waves, and it taught me something important. That game (which is peak) releases small story patches every two weeks, and that rhythm is perfect for player engagement.

Having to wait months for mediocre story quests is what made me drop FFXIV. If they had instead released shorter patches with two to three hours of story content every couple of weeks, a story quest with battles but no dungeon every two weeks, a story quest with a dungeon every month, and a new raid every two to six months, the wait wouldn’t have felt nearly as bad, even if the quests weren’t great.

If FFXIV adopted that model, they would achieve maximum engagement, and the wait between major updates would no longer feel unbearable.
