He's actually an amazing writer at getting you invested in his characters and their relationships, he's also amazing at getting you to rage the fuck out at how frustrating all his characters are being, and he's also absolutely godfaceslappingly terrible at ending his novels in a way that makes any of his readers happy with the outcome. And yet by then you're so invested that you literally cannot stop reading the train crash.
