I do a duplicate layer, mosaic the whole image, and then erase with a layer mask using a square brush
I also tend to do a film grain filter at the end because I like making the pixelation look grittier. Outside of that I experiment with random things like subtle gradients or whatever else
I'm pretty particular about how pixelation looks. I don't like masking to body parts where theres curves and stuff like that, it looks odd. I try to keep it all rectangles and squares.
Here's one I did a while back before I realized this preference. See how the pixels kinda go with the curve of her body? It's really off putting to me and I try to avoid that. I could understand if someone preferred that style though but I'd rather a pixel go 1 square outside of her body rather than these weird unnatural curves.
