It's really interesting to see how massively different the average reaction seems to be between the japanese and western audiences. While the japanese viewership seems to sympathize with both children and their awful circumstances, including the feeling of helplessness in the face of a public school system that doesn't care about them, the western reaction seems to focus on trying to find a definitive "culprit" to shift all of the blame on, sometimes even to the point where they hold a literal 9-year old child directly responsible. Internet edgelords trying to one-up another, wishing for the death of a child not as a heat-of-the-moment impulse reaction, but even doubling down on it later on Twitter and other platforms. Whether it's done for views or for controversy, it's revolting either way.

I don't give a shit about these garbage shows but saying that cultural exports as a form of propaganda are somehow unique to China is really fucking rich.
