They're already working on it in the west, and who knows what Ukraine has going on.
Perun's done some videos about this. The advantage seems to mostly be for "manned-unmanned teaming" units, where you can keep the manned system (like the current concept for 6th gen fighters) at standoff distances and attack with the drones from there.
In Ukraine, I might expect some more innovative stuff maybe involving the networking of drones to maintain connectivity and what-have-you rather than a proper "mothership", which might be less useful for them.
