Just because kids these days don't know about bare metal computing doesn't mean they're dumb.
I was taught the old way with C, makefiles, and a bit of assembly.
It was nice to get a bit of historical context from the days of the bell labs chads, but nowadays you have a lot of college kids who only know python and they don't care about what's under the hood unless they have to (which is never for most of them) and that's fine.
The real computer kids learn these things by themselves out of pure curiosity anyway, and they go on building their own CPU out of redstone in Minecraft and that's pretty fucking cool
