The current incarnation of conservatism which started as the 'alt-right' but is now firmly the establishment in the white house has passed it's peak. Literally every chud pandering grifter online with half a brain is currently taking steps to distance themselves from the movement. It's on borrowed time.
No matter how unpopular Trump gets with the public and his own base, he is still very much the glue that holds the entire thing together. The only thing keeping everything together is Trump's cryptic-feminine showmanship that distracts away from all the current Republican policies. It's very easy for everyone to just talk about how retarded he acts personally, instead of the actual things he's pushing through. A regular boring stiff Republican politician will get eaten alive trying to do half the things Trump gets away with. Ecelebs won't have anything meaty to chew on covering a regular boring politician who comes after Trump. It's part of why their trying to cut and gut everything now, because they won't get a chance for years after Trump is out.
