>ASoIaF has better characters.
This is something a midwit would believe.
George RR Martin wouldn't be able to write a myth like LOTR. He's a fat slob who lives in excess with zero real convictions or guiding principle philosophy other than writing about muh realism.
Realism is cool I guess, but LOTR expresses timeless moral truths. Where good and evil are real and one can fall or rise in relation to them.
You can write the most gritty flawed fucked up morally ambiguous characters you want. That doesn't make them better than Tolkien's which stand for ideas larger than themselves. Loyalty, mercy, wisdom over pride, etc. It gives the story strong resonant themes that are entirely driven by the characters.
Meanwhile ASOIAF is a vomit of ideas with no direction and he's written himself into such a corner he will never finish his series. Even if he did the conclusion would stand for nothing other than to wrap up the plot threads.
