I don't know if this constitutes blasphemy in the MOTU fan sphere, but lately I've been feeling like the Filmation cartoon has actually been detrimental to the overall story of He-Man, namely the addition of Cringer and Prince Adam as the "true" identity of He-Man. To me it feels like the Filmation elements took MOTU an enhanced Conan-alike and made He-Man into another Superman/superhero knock off, with a secret identity and whacky sidekicks. There's elements of that secret identity schtick that work for superheros but doesn't really make sense for He-Man. If villains found out that Superman, or Spider-Man were Clark Kent/Peter Parker, then they would go after their friends and family, so a secret identity makes sense to keep their loved ones safe, but everyone He-Man is close to is highly skilled warrior capable of holding their own without issue (story requirements notwithstanding), or they're royalty with Randor and Marlena, who are already targets due to their titles.
Don't get me wrong, I do really like the Filmation cartoon, and I like what I've seen of 200X, this isn't some "I want the silly 80s cartoon for kids to be super serious!" thing I like the cartoon for what it is, I just feel like that now being the definitive version of MOTU is kinda limiting. I've been reading the mini comic collection and as the stories have start incorporating elements of the cartoon it just feels like the story has gone from adventures during the "days of high adventure" to something less grand. I'd love to hear the thoughts of other anons, and if this isn't really suitable for this board I can make this a thread over on /co/.
