not really that absurd. It was an airburst of countless tiny shards of shrapnel down into their heads. You can see where it ripped into nearby rooftops like a shotgun blast. The only thing limiting how many it could kill was how many were concentrated together in that one spot.
At the time, the lot was jam packed with families waiting outside for their loved ones being treated and doing triage, since the war had only started a few weeks ago and the bombings were at their height.
