I've always argued that women's real power has always been the men in her life; her father, her husband, her brothers and her sons. These people will outright murder for her honor if she plays her cards right. Hell she just has to not be horrible and she could still get them to die for her. Any problem, even ones that require illegal solutions, can be solved for her. Very few men have this kind of influence and so a good woman normally would have more power than an average man. The ye olden social contract had women be socially elevated but politically dead for good reason.
But she traded this power to the government... for not much. She is now socially elevated and politically elevated but now she relies exclusively on the government to protect her. A problem like a rapist showing up in her bedroom in the middle of the night can be solved with a call to the government and a 15 minute wait instead of having multiple men sleeping in the next room. A problem like somebody taking advantage of her and she can do nothing because the government doesn't actually care about her.
She can do whatever she wants but since shes a woman and cannot physically defend herself all she can do is put herself into dangerous and bad situations. Without the men in her life she just becomes a slave to whatever force she bumps into whether it be hedonism or her job. And so women liberated themselves from men to become slaves to anything with even a little bit of power or influence.
