This. But unironically.
Ukraine didn't want the oblasts. They didn't just shell them, they turned down opportunities to annex them under an Austrian type agreement where Ukraine is neutral. They rejected any peace offers, and continued to lose territory.
Sanctions have negatively impacted the west, didn't have their intended effect and they're willing to talk about it. (which is why the Russian delegation has economists)
Ukraine has taken heavy losses at an unsustainable rate. They actually need peace.
The interceptors, yeah missiles don't win wars. Russia needed to take territory and hold it with men, which is what they've been doing.
