It's only a good point if you have no critical thinking skills. Xebec is hardly being glazed at all by characters in the manga. His own crew don't even like him.
The real problem with Oden though, like most characters in Wano, is that they are only relevant in Wano (which is distinguished from other arcs by those characters at least being largely contained to their settings unlike Oden going everywhere with everyone just to return to Wano and die) and are built up to largely accomplish nothing. Wano as a whole was greatly drawn out by side characters that did almost nothing. We know Xebec is very important to the story and will have importance to the end, even if only through Blackbeard, so of course it matters learning about him.
All of that said, I don't mind Oden or his flashback, but it's apples and oranges to Xebec.
