Because they systematically organise to prevent humans with morals (as opposed to psychopathic lizardmen) from gaining any serious wealth or power. Since these evil people know that if anyone 'good' ever reached an equal footing with them, they would be slaughtered with the full support of the public rallying behind the good side.
The easiest way to keep others down is to keep them impoverished and restrict social mobility, which in practice looks like they're being uber-greedy and trying to hoover up every last penny they can. But they're not doing so because they want the money; they're doing so to deny you prosperity (to protect their position of power). Their actions are a concerted and purposeful attack on your ability to prosper you MUST understand this if you ever hope to understand why the elites act as they do.
