I was looking through some old /horg/ threads and saw a very cerebral discussion about RE2R and chief irons that I want to repost because of how much it resonated with me germane to anon asking about re2r the other day
> >Irons is both a rapist and a nonce now, despite RE2 never saying either thing, though he was a psycho
>This was the biggest offense I think, yes, they ruined his characterization and just made him curse every second, in the original he was just cunning and deranged and a serial killer who was sabotaging everything
>The worst thing they did to him was that by doing this, they made him seem incompetent. Irons fucks up every single thing he does in RE2R and most of it is for the sake of satiating his uncontrollable urges.
>Imagine if when he ambushes Claire and Sherry in the parking garage, instead of coming off as a creep, he genuinely puts forward a good face and convinces Sherry to come with him with his good cop act, misconstrue Claire's intentions by twisting how he knew her brother and why he and the rest of STARS except for Brad got fired, that kind of thing
>Irons was a threatening character in the original game because of how much of a cold-blooded, manipulative liar he could be, which made his death to G feel almost karmic; he'd been so clever to escape punishment and seemingly got away with all the evil things he did, covering for Umbrella, killing his own officers, murdering the daughter of the mayor, manipulating Claire/Leon; but in the end, fate still took its pound of flesh from him.
>Imagine if instead of evading Irons at the orphanage, you're evading Birkin after he kills Irons.
