Funny how the globohomo blob is now all a buzz about getting a nuclear reactor on the moon before China. I think I talked about this before in /chug/ but years ago I was having a conversation I was having with a NASA employee friend of a friend. The topic of colonization came up and he was started venting at me about the US government. He was upset that the government was talking about colonizing the moon simply to deny China the ability to. He claimed it was an entirely useless endeavour, but took solace in the fact that NASA isn't well funded and no new funding was allocated. He hoped that if they did try to colonize the moon that it would be small in scope, underfunded, and eventually left to rot. The whole time I just politely let the topic pass (1 to avoid troubling my friend, 2. this guy seemed like the type to not take challenge well) but kept running through my head all the reasons he is wrong and the insanity of the situation. With all the benefits of having a lunar colony an actual NASA employ doesn't want it to happen, and the US government only wants it so they can stop it others from doing it.
