thanks m8, I'm pretty happy with how it's looking lately.
I can say that most of what you see in my UI is actually fully meshed 3D objects parked in front of the camera (speedometer, altimeter, etc.). I had to do some real fuckery getting reflections to work in front of the monitor but that's another story.
Then for the digital-looking stuff it's just basic UI elements like text boxes and sprites, but instead of drawing them directly to the screen I have them rendered onto planes in 3D space so they can be moved around. Just slap on some some translucency and scanline materials and there she goes
