Fun fact: Pizza was practically unknown in most of Italy out of Naples until WW2 when GI's, esp Italian Americans, kept asking for pizza in areas of Italy where nobody knew what it was. After which, pizza spread throughout Italy. In fact, the idea of placing cheese on pizza was something brought back over to Italy from Italian immigrants in the US where ingredients were plentiful.
