My review for Death Line from Spooktober 24:
1/2
Death Line (1973) – Where I expected a blood-spattered bit of sensationalism, I discovered an Excellent, detailed story of cannibalistic HUMAN underground dwellers. We start off with some big, bowler-wearing muckety-muck from the British defense ministry, trolling the subway at night for hookers. He is presently kidnapped from his carnal quest by a man-eating scion of the subterranean world: a descendant of workers who were trapped in a cave-in while expanding the London Underground in 1892, and who since have gotten by eating rats, and later, LONDONERS after having cleared an opening a generation or so later.
What separates this from the exploitation flicks and “video nasties” of the era is a great attention to detail and well, *believability*! The degraded, plague-rattled “monster” is portrayed with success as a sympathetic figure, bemoaning the death of his equally diseased, very pregnant girlfriend, and getting by the only way he knows how -- by kidnapping unsuspecting folk from the subway and SLASHING their throats with a triangle of sharp metal before eating them!
