To explain in a short term, the only relevant/civilized nations at the time were Christian and White.

So the term "Christianity" was synonymous with "White" too, Ethiopia was a country that was completely forgotten 99% of the time. They were still considered Christian, but as an very off/weird branch of it, outright heretical at times even.

These currently do exist and you can still visit them. Also many people larp around the old towns, especially for weddings.

What I find interesting is how early medieval or even towns from "dark" ages looed like, especially since they're hardly documented. What language did the people speak, what law they followed? Which is why I'd pick Novgorod probably
