Supermarkets want a cult. When you hear/read about any company looking to employ people to join their franchise's "family" they really mean they are looking for slaves and zealots who will commit themselves entirely to the brand. Anyone who won't go through these team building exercises retains enough sense of self that they are fired first unless no alternatives are available.
