They want you to subscribe to Game Pass.
To access those games, you use the Xbox launcher.
If you have Steam on your PC, it automatically connects to it without you having to login, download anything anything additional, etc.
IMO it's what Timmy at EGS should've done, rather than try to make a console war out of it. A war of convenience. Microsoft knows you're probably never buying an Xbox game over Steam, but you'll pay to play games via Game Pass.
