I think its more an inherent bias to his own adventures and fearing being obsolete rather than disliking their ideas. It'll probably tie back to Kinger's words applying to the character that they sort of take for granted. "The worse thing you can do to someone here is make them feel unwanted."

They should offer to have him join on one their own adventure ideas. Could also give him more perspective for his own ideas in the future to make things more enjoyable for everyone while having fun himself.
