there's a fine line between having a design having obviously sillier aspects and imperfections vs. having the silly parts be the core focus of the design
mega blastoise has the oversized cannon and the shell arms that border on goofy, but they're offset by its change in stature and smaller tweaks to its design that give it a more fierce expression and sharper details all throughout its body. this still lets it have a bit of personality without feeling like it's reduced to a punchline
compare this to excadrill where not only does it now have cartoonishly long drill bits, but its nose was made noticeably bigger, its face was outright dragged further down its neck, it has random metal shapes sitting loosely on its body, and its arms are reduced to thin noodles that are awkwardly squeezed into its drills instead of remaining as the natural-looking claws seen in the base design
nothing wrong with liking the newer megas, but a lot of them absolutely do not have the same design philosophy as the original set
