Yeah, it's about finding the right balance of brightness+distance from the actor. I almost exclusively use Lighting type 1 for mine, as the other lighting types tend to be too bright or effect too much of the background/scenery for my tastes.
But in this, I just used a warm color light that's low and closer to my character. And then used a cool color light that's up high and off to the side/somewhat behind them.
Shaders and character skin/hair/fur colors will change how things behave too so mileage may vary.
