I don't understand when and why we can't just accept it being a video game. There's no reason to assume Spider-man can get taken down by thugs no matter how asleep at the controller the player is. Just let it be a video game. You're not meant to take it as canon when you lose. I blame Assassins Creed's bullshit for this.
