even a base model n/a is on the borderline. looking at mr2oc right now there are posts in the for sale section for n/as for less than or around 3k but they either don't run, haven't been registered in over a decade, or are for parts only. running cars are around 4-11k, and s/cs are 5-20k.
yes people are actually asking 20 thousand us dollars for a 40 year old backwards corolla. unlikely to find them any cheaper elsewhere.

i was also going to suggest a V6 fiero as those are almost exactly the same car, only have 5 less hp than an s/c mr2 and are usually cheaper but they have shot up in price too and the cheapest one on the internet is just under 4 grand
