Not including Ukraine doesn't mean, "Oh man, Ukraine is a pawn and its fate is being decided", it means, "These negotiations will ALSO be pointless because they didn't include the defending nation."

This is also why Trump himself is fantasizing about an immediate follow-up meeting with Zelenski and Putin.
He KNOWS this is pointless.
