Even if it picked up steam again, they will not release the files under any circumstances simply because no one has the power to make them do it. The same goes for impeachment - he's done so much shit at this point that should have gotten him impeached, removed, and honestly probably executed for treason. But no one can force the republicans do it, so they won't.

And THEN even if he dies in office, the republicans still will never cede power. Faith in the electoral process has been irreparably shaken, and when there's doubt about the results, we already know from bush v gore that the supreme court will just hand them the win. Add to this their regular election suppression+propaganda and the massive gerrymandering efforts they're currently engaged in, and we'll probably never see a non-republican president again. The democratic party will be extinct by 2030.
