We had a lot more time, a lot less vidya to choose from, and because we were kids we were willing to experiment more. Eventually through sheer trial and error we'd figure stuff out. Kids aren't actually dumb, they just don't have as many experiences so they need to figure things out in a more bruteforce way sometimes.
