Thats true but in terms of artistic ability the ancient world was undoubtedly better than the medieval one. By Pax Romana we are getting 2D art that looks quite lifelike and this is without any oil paint. To clarify Medieval art isn't bad or lacking in any sort of techniques, some of it is really beautiful. But its all just stylized religious art and nothing more.
