Let me just focus on personal vehicles because I can't address everything at once, your car doesn't make you free. Yes, it is a type of freedom, but your ability to drive is completely at the mercy of petroleum companies, the overall economy, and the state authorities that issued the license and maintain the roads. Also because everyone relies on driving so much, you're a slave to something else: everything is extremely far apart, so depending on where you live you may not even have a choice but to drive, even for the most immediate necessities. The viability of walking/other means of transport represents a purer form of freedom.

Your ancestors, who were far more based, didn't need to drive. Everything in their town or city was laid out in an organic easily accessible way that allowed them to get everything they needed. They had a vibrant city center in walking distance. In their towns, the availability of "third places" to hang out and simply enjoy life utterly btfo'd those of a modern US city where that almost doesn't exist anymore. And before you start on it, I understand there are other factors (niggers, etc) that are to blame. And I'm also not saying that people should not have the option to drive, I do every day. In conclusion this is what I mean when I say that there are common right-wing beliefs that are somehow anti-traditional.
