Not sure what your definition of 'self-insert' is.
The /a/ meme is not the same as the original definition. It's shorthand for "self-insert escapist power fantasy". Not to say most entertainment isn't escapism on some level, but these series are custom designed to maximize dick stroking by-proxy. Common signs include
>MC is a bland everyman
>initial struggles (betrayal, banishment, injury) resolved narratively quickly with no major lasting impact, or at least the MC comes out of it much more powerful
>MC instantly OP or OP from nothing but "hard work"
>10/10 girls constantly throwing themselves at MC for no reason
>All romantic endeavors successful
>black and white conflicts/morality/players
>If MC is "edgy", it just means he has an expected amount of indignation to some major offense
>If MC is "cold", it just means he has an appropriate amount of caution in a dangerous environment
Anons who think these standards should be universal are called "self-inserters". Doubly so if they demand the MC has sex, since the only other explanation is being a cuck proper.
