Sinners is the most overrated film of the year by a huge margin. It drags on too long, it uses nods to actual American history in place of actual character development, and a majority of the final act is incoherently written thriller slop with all the depth of a plastic spoon. Even as a vibes piece it completely falls short because all the main characters are so paper thin. I'll admit that kid could really sing though, albeit he didn't sing enough. It's a brainlet film for people just getting into social commentary movies. It's all hype moments and aura, the JJK of modern blaxploitstion. One Battle After Another completely rolls Sinners in every category including scares, and it's like 40% a comedy film. Fucking Bugonia is a better horror than sinners.
