"Intelligent" is kind of cringe but honestly it does convey pretty well that its more intended for at home listening with a focus on experimentation and technique. Like the genre is kind of inherently pretentious and I think the name attracts the type of nerds who would enjoy it and turns away the normies who probably wouldn't. I don't think "braindance" sounds any less pretentious lol.

I pretty much agree but I think it needs to have some influence from dance music specifically, like house and techno. Not all experimental electronic music is IDM.
