QUESTION: I have never played a TCG besides Hearthstone. The IRL card games of Yugioh, Pokemon, and MTG always seemed absurdly complicated and jargon/rules heavy with stuff like "bench" and having to keep track of tokens and paragraphs of rules text on the back of cards. Hearthstone drew me in for a year when it launched back in 2014 because it was straight forward and comprehensible (both the rules and the visual clarity of the board), and because of the presentation and animation quality. Shame about the cartoony art, though. I wound up dropping Hearthstone a year or two later around when the Argent Tournament expac came out and they started banning my favorite cards, and I didn't want to get on this treadmill of paying to get the new cards that will only be taken away eventually. I briefly tried Legends of Runeterra a couple years back but was repelled because it was more unintuitive with you alternating between two different types of turns, more busy UI, and less satisfying animations/visuals. I have been trying to figure out if this new Pokemon TCG Pocket is any good when I remembered that Cygames (they made my most favorite gacha/VN, Granblue Fantasy, which I love for its story and aesthetics and music. I don't do any endgame grind stuff there). Is this new Shadowverse game good? I heard it has good animations. Is it generous like GBF where I have gotten 500 characters just for logging in during the three event months (Christmas New Year's, Anniversary in March, Summer August event) for 8 years and never spent a dime? I am looking at Steam reviews and it appears that it is getting review bombed because of a recent popularity poll?
