The really important parts came down to two "clean" data-points that gave me an early look at the character of the country:
1. Being shown Russian dashcam video in the early 2000s, asking why everybody had a dashcam in Russia, and having it explained to me about the extent of insurance fraud.
2. The intro song from the second season of "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex", which is by a Russian woman, and has some english-language lyrics that convincingly romanticizes the idea of a meat-wave.
Years later, when the MSM was like, "OMG this shithole is attacking with meat-waves!", and I'm like, "Yeah, they would..."
