>So why is it so hard to find German food in the US? I cant walk down my street without tripping over a pizza place, a taco place, and some random asian place. But for German I have to drive an hour and a half one way just to find a restaurant that specializes in German food.
The short answer is that the German Americans, the largest minority in America at the time, were culturally genocided by the anglos during ww1. German Americans were put in camps, forbidden from speaking their language and practicing their customs, and forced to change their names. Prior to 1914, in every major American city there'd be a German minority community where you'd easily find German restaurants and groceries, and if this were the Midwest, the majority population would be German and you'd definitely speak German yourself even if you weren't, having picked it up from your friends during school/your parents forced you to go to a German school so you could help translate for your dad's business.
This is what happens when anglos encounter other European cultures; their first instinct is to destroy them. This happens all the time, in America, South Africa, Canada I mean the list goes on: anglos will speak to dominate then destroy other European cultures and populations. That is their way.
