Nasu wants to end FGO because he planned for the story to end with Part 2 and he feels he doesn't have a better story or ending in him. He told players that he will continue if they want but that it will probably just slowly fizzle out because Part 2 ending will feel like the natural ending point.
Aniplex is taking a wait and see approach because Nasu is FGO and they can't lose him and the authority and reach his name gives the game.
