But that's the whole story of the system. Sword World was born in 1989 because Record of Lodoss War needed a rules base after abandoning D&D. And so, for over 35 years, Sword World has been Japan's go-to domestic alternative to D&D, it and Lodoss War being one of the defining and foundational building blocks of Japanese-flavored western fantasy.
