My bet is that Asgore became so obsessed with trying to find Dess that he began to neglect Asriel and Kris ("I don't remember if you like hugs like that.") which is what began the fighting between them. In the scene showing everyone gathered around the living room, the first to disappear is Dess, then Carol, THEN Asgore.
