The Chinese know that America is rapidly industrializing it's REE mining capabilities and once they are fully geared up the Chinese monopoly on REE is over. The timeline for China maintaining their monopoly is very short and the US tarrifs have been absolutely buttfucking the Chinese economy, destabilizing China politically, and weakening Chinas geopolitical position. It is going to be extremely interesting to see the fallout from this phone call and if Xi is willing to humble himself enough to play ball or if he will value short term gains over long term strength.
